Prairie Rehabilitation offers wheelchair seating and positioning clinic to improve mobility, skin and tissue health, and comfort.

The Wheelchair Seating and Mobility Clinic at our Sioux Falls Cliff Ave office conducts personalized assessments of each client’s needs, condition and abilities. Our Occupational and Physical Therapy specialists will help fit each client with a customized transportation aid. The goal is to optimize each person’s mobility, comfort, and quality of life.

With proper wheelchair seating and positioning, you will be more comfortable in your chair of choice. A scooter or transportation device can provide support, improve health and mobility, and promote independence. Prairie Rehabilitation can assist people with disabilities improve their seating and mobility. Conditions that can be helped by our services include:

  • Cerebral palsy (chronic condition affecting body movement and muscle coordination)
  • Spina bifida (a birth defect that can result in various, severe disabilities)
  • Pressure sores (damaged tissue caused by lack of blood flow due to pressure)
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease)
  • Muscular Dystrophy

Our Services

At Prairie Rehabilitation, you will receive an individual evaluation that helps create a personalized care plan to meet your needs and help you achieve your health goals.  We will work with your medical team and equipment provider to provide services including:

  • Physical, occupational and speech therapy
  • Access to assistive technology specialists with expertise in seating and positioning
  • Pressure mapping assessment using the Xsensor pressure mapping system to determine which wheelchair or equipment provides the most appropriate pressure relief
  • Propulsion analysis to examine your ability to maneuver a manual wheelchair
  • Wheelchair movement skills evaluation
  • Recommendations for specialized wheelchairs: ultra-lightweight, bariatric, tilt-in-space, power wheelchairs, and scooters
  • Fitting adjustments and practice sessions when new equipment is delivered
  • Wheelchair or seating recommendations for specialized wheelchairs (ultra-lightweight, bariatric, tilt-in-space), power wheelchairs and scooters
  • Fitting adjustments and practice sessions when new equipment is delivered
