Wheelchair seating and mobility clinic
Prairie Rehabilitation has a wheelchair seating and mobility clinic at our Central Sioux Falls clinic and at the Worthington Oxford clinic. At the wheelchair seating and mobility clinic which has a Specialty Wheelchair Clinic/ Assessment, our occupational and physical therapy specialists conduct personalized assessments of each client’s needs, conditions, and abilities. Our specialized team, along with your equipment provider, will help to measure and fit each client with the appropriate wheelchair or scooter. Our goal is to optimize each person’s mobility, comfort, and quality of life.

With proper wheelchair seating and positioning, you will be more comfortable in the chair of your choice. The proper seating and positioning system can provide improved health and mobility, optimal support, and promote independence. Prairie Rehabilitation can assist clients to improve their seating and mobility. Conditions that can be helped by our services include cerebral palsy, spina bifida, pressure injuries, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injuries, and cardiac, respiratory, and arthritic conditions.
Our services
At Prairie rehabilitation, you will receive an individualized evaluation that helps create a personalized plan of care to help meet your needs and to help you achieve your health goals. We work closely with you, your medical team, and your equipment provider to provide services including:
- Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy
- Access to assistive technology specialists with expertise in seating and positioning
- Pressure mapping using a mapping system and a variety of wheelchair cushions to determine which seating system provides the most appropriate pressure relief for you
- Propulsion analysis to examine your ability to propel a manual wheelchair
- Wheelchair movement skills evaluation
- Recommendations for specialized wheelchairs: Manual, scooters, or power wheelchairs
- Recommendations for specialized seating systems that integrate with your wheelchair

- Determining if your wheelchair is supporting you properly
- Recommendations for modifications to allow improved pressure relief and to decrease point pressure that can create pressure injuries
- Addressing changes in your ability to move or walk that might require equipment changes or modifications (mobility-related activities of daily living)
